Mahindra Group and Johnson Controls Unveil Initiative for Net Zero Buildings in India

The Mahindra Group, a leading Indian industrial conglomerate, has teamed up with Johnson Controls, a global pioneer in smart and sustainable building solutions, to launch an innovative Net Zero Buildings Initiative aimed at advancing India’s efforts to decarbonize its burgeoning building infrastructure. This initiative is designed to facilitate India’s transition to smart, sustainable buildings, crucial for both environmental and economic progress. With the International Energy Agency highlighting that three-quarters of India’s buildings projected for 2040 are yet to be constructed, and with buildings currently contributing to 20% of emissions and over 30% of energy consumption in the country, this initiative is timely.

Abanti Sankaranarayanan of Mahindra emphasized the company’s commitment to being ‘Planet Positive’ and the importance of collaboration for sustainable futures. George Oliver, CEO of Johnson Controls, underscored the natural synergy between the two companies in leading this initiative, which promises to set a precedent for sustainable building practices globally.

The Net Zero Buildings Initiative offers a comprehensive toolkit and training at no cost, assisting building owners in understanding and implementing sustainable practices, navigating building regulations, and exploring financing models among other resources. It underscores a significant move towards integrating sustainability into India’s developmental agenda, aligning with government efforts to reduce carbon emissions and enhance energy efficiency. The initiative is set to launch in March 2024, with a series of workshops planned to drive nationwide adoption and support India’s journey towards low-carbon development.
