Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverage’s Karnataka Plant Makes Strides: Attains Carbon Neutrality Milestone

Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd (HCCB), a leading FMCG company in India, proudly announces the certification of its bottling plant in Bidadi Industrial Area, Ramanagara, Karnataka, as carbon neutral. This landmark achievement, certified under the international standard PAS 2060 by DNV, marks the first Coca-Cola bottling plant in India and the Southwest Asia region to attain this distinction. The prestigious certification is set to be issued in May 2024, highlighting a significant milestone in HCCB’s sustainability journey.

Aligned with its ambitious goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050, HCCB aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in its value chain by 25% by 2030. The Bidadi facility, since 2020, has made substantial progress, with over 90% of its power derived from renewable sources. Prioritizing emission reduction within the value chain precedes engagement in verified carbon offset projects.

To address residual emissions at the Bidadi plant, HCCB plans to acquire Gold Standard certified carbon credits from an Indian project by 2024, reinforcing its commitment to carbon neutrality. The company remains dedicated to environmental stewardship, emphasizing water replenishment, nature-based solutions, biodiversity enhancement, and regenerative agriculture in collaboration with suppliers and farmers.

Alok Sharma, Executive Director of Supply Chain at HCCB, emphasized the achievement as a major industry benchmark, showcasing the company’s commitment to a sustainable future. Enrique Ackermann, Vice President of Technical Innovation & Supply Chain at Coca-Cola India & Southwest Asia, highlighted the company’s active pursuit of sustainable solutions across the value chain.

In line with The Coca-Cola Company’s global commitment to a 25% absolute reduction in carbon emissions by 2050, HCCB’s initiatives resonate with the Government of India’s vision for net-zero emissions by 2070, reflecting a shared commitment to sustainable development and environmental conservation. HCCB aims to not only adhere to governmental guidelines but actively participate in a collective movement toward a greener future.
