Adani Total Gas Limited (ATGL), a prominent energy and city gas distribution company in India, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Flipkart, the country’s leading ecommerce marketplace. The collaboration aims to align with Flipkart’s vision of minimizing carbon footprint across the various stages of goods transportation, encompassing sourcing locations, warehouses, and customer deliveries.
Under the MoU, ATGL will provide decarbonization solutions to facilitate Flipkart’s transition to cleaner fuel alternatives, including natural gas, and the incorporation of electric vehicles (EVs) into its fleet. Adani TotalEnergies E-Mobility Limited (ATEL), a subsidiary of ATGL, will be responsible for deploying EV charging infrastructure at Flipkart’s supply chain locations nationwide, including warehouses and logistics hubs.
This partnership is anticipated to significantly contribute to reducing carbon emissions in the e-commerce logistics sector in India, which currently handles over 8 million shipments daily. With the nation’s growing economy, the volume of shipments is expected to rise, emphasizing the need for sustainable solutions to mitigate associated carbon emissions.
The collaboration aligns with India’s commitment to climate action goals, including the reduction of carbon intensity in the economy and achieving a net-zero target, as highlighted at COP 26. Notably, Indian e-commerce players like Flipkart have also set their sights on net-zero goals, with a focus on decarbonizing transportation to align with these environmental objectives.
ATGL, co-promoted by Adani Group and France’s TotalEnergies, is dedicated to developing India’s next-generation energy infrastructure, offering cleaner energy solutions across residential, commercial, industrial, and transportation sectors.
Suresh P Manglani, Executive Director & CEO of Adani Total Gas Ltd, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing clean energy solutions, actively contributing to India’s climate action goals. Hemant Badri, Senior Vice President and Head of Supply Chain, Customer Experience & Re-Commerce at Flipkart Group, expressed the ecommerce giant’s commitment to sustainability, highlighting the collaboration with Adani Total Gas Limited as a crucial step in achieving net-zero goals and advancing the electrification of its fleet for a more sustainable future.
